DAYTON -- Despite the blizzard-like weather outside, it was burning up inside UD Arena as the University of Dayton men's basketball team defeated VCU 106-79 on Friday. Â The Flyers held the lead from tip-off through the final buzzer and set a school record with 17 three-pointers made.Â
Darrell Davis led the Flyer offense in scoring with 28 points—tying his career-high.
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Half: Dayton 66 VCU 41
- The Flyers started the game out on a strong 8-0 run. Six of those points came from back-to-back threes from Jordan Davis.
- Jordan Davis and Trey Landers contributed all 15 of Dayton's points combined four minutes into the half (15-7).
- At the 13:48 minute-mark, the Flyers were shooting an impressive 83% from the field when the score was 24-14, Flyers.
- The Flyers were 12 of 14 from the field to start the game.

- Every Flyers player who played more than ten minutes during the game contributed to the scoreboard, when Matej Svoboda hit a layup at the 12:19 mark.
- Jalen Crutcher broke his career-high record of assists and led the Flyers with 10 dimes. He also put up a double-double during the game, adding 12 points. Crutcher missed the first triple-double in school history by two rebounds. He pulled down a career-high eight boards.
- At the 9:34 mark, the Flyers held a 31-point lead—their largest lead in the half and the game (58-89).
- Jordan Davis hit his career-high scoring total with 21 points, besting his previous mark of 14.
- Darrell Davis contributed six points from the line—he is leading the Atlantic 10 in free throw shooting (24-24) and is currently on a 29 for 29 consecutive free-throw streak. That streak is the fourth-best in UD history.
- Senior walkon Joey Gruden, who graduated in December, scored a three-pointer with 34 seconds left in the half—his first career basket.
- In addition to tying his career-best in scoring with 28 points, Darrell Davis also more than doubled his career high in assists, with nine. Â
