Box Score DAYTON – The Dayton women's tennis team was back in action Sunday and hosted Cincinnati, as the Flyers played the team's first home match of the season at Five Seasons Sports Complex. The Flyers pushed several sets nearly to the distance, but ultimately fell to the Bearcats by a 5-2 margin.
The Flyers split courts two and three in doubles play, including a 6-2 victory by seniors Jackie and
Jade Kawamoto, but the Bearcats were able to secure the doubles point with a win in No. 1 doubles by Ioana Guna and Caroline Morton over senior
Marlys Bridgham and junior
Mattea Kilstofte in a back-and-forth match that finished with a score of 6-4.
Dayton earned a quick point in singles play with
Jackie Kawamoto winning by default after Cincinnati's Maria Teixido Garcia retired due to injury in the first set, but the Flyers lost the next three matches and the Bearcats clinched the match. Kilstofte was the other athlete for Dayton to earn a point with a 6-4, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles over Alexia Coutino.
Next up for Dayton is a matchup on the road against Miami (OH) on Sunday, Jan. 28 with matches beginning at 10 a.m.
