DAYTON – The Dayton men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action this weekend after opening up their spring season a week ago.
Men
The Dayton men will hit the road to Richmond, Va. for a pair of crucial conference matches against VCU and Richmond. The Flyers will take on VCU on Friday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. and will turn around and match up with Richmond on Saturday at 9 a.m. Dayton is off to its first 2-0 start to the season since at least 2004 after defeating IUPUI and Toledo last weekend. Jordan Benjamin, Zach Berry and Steven Karl are all 2-0 in singles play to open the season.
Quick Hits on VCU
- VCU is 3-0 this season with wins over Georgetown, Drexel and Campbell in the opening weekend.
- VCU is the defending Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament champions and matched up with then-No. 12 North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, which they lost 4-0.
- Rams freshman Inigo Torre Martin was named the A-10 Conference Newcomer of the week after going 3-0 at the No. 4 singles position. He lost only one set across the weekend.

- Senior Caleb Troy is the Atlantic 10's reigning conference player of the week after cruising to a victory at the No. 1 singles spot against Matthew Lord of Virginia 6-3, 6-2.
- The last time Richmond and Dayton met in competition was the 2017 Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Semifinals. The Spiders prevailed in that matchup by a 4-1 margin.

Women
The women will also be on the road this weekend and will be looking to grab their first win of the season on Sunday against Miami (Ohio). Matches will begin at 10 a.m. The Flyers will look to rebound after dropping a pair of matches against Louisville and Cincinnati to open the season. Junior
Mattea Kilstofte picked up an impressive win in the No. 2 singles spot and Jade and
Jackie Kawamoto earned a win in No. 2 doubles to highlight the Flyers performances from last week.
Quick Hits on Miami (Ohio)
- Miami will also be searching for its first win of the season on Sunday. The Redhawks lost to Kentucky, 7-0, in its season-opening match.
- This is the second consecutive season that the Flyers and Redhawks have met in dual play. Last season at the Riverside Sports Complex in Oxford, Ohio, Miami defeated Dayton 4-2 despite the Flyers picking up an early point in doubles.
- The Redhawks went 12-12 overall last season, but advanced all the way to the MAC Conference Tournament Finals and nearly won before falling to Buffalo, 4-2.
