Box Score OXFORD, Ohio – The Dayton women's tennis team got off to a fast start on Sunday against Miami (Ohio), but was unable to sustain its lead, eventually dropping the match by a score of 5-2. The Flyers fall to 0-3 on the season, while the RedHawks improve to 2-1.
Dayton earned a doubles sweep to take the first point of the match. Jade and
Jackie Kawamoto cruised to a 6-0 victory over Priyana Kalita and Milana Lysova, then
Mattea Kilstofte and
Marlys Bridgham clinched the point with a 6-2 win over Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina in No. 1 doubles.
Kilstofte continued her strong play of late in singles play on Sunday with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Vasiukhina in No. 2 singles to give Dayton a 2-0 match lead. It was the second straight win for Kilstofte, who also defeated Cincinnati's Alexia Coutino last weekend. The Flyers battled in each of the remaining singles matches, including Bridgham and
Jackie Kawamoto forcing their matches into a third set, but the RedHawks would go on to win the next five matches.
The Flyers will host two matches next weekend at the Five Seasons Sports Club. Cleveland State will travel to Dayton for a match on Friday, Feb. 2, with matches beginning at noon, then the Flyers will be back in action at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4 against Wright State.
