#UDWBB Hosts Duquesne Wednesday In Battle For First

The Flyers Enter The Game 9-0 In The A-10 While The Dukes Are 8-0

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team returns home after 10 days on the road to host fellow Atlantic 10 unbeaten foe Duquesne University Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at UD Arena. A-10 title implications will be on the line and someone will suffer their first loss in league play.

It's Disney Day at Dayton with special guests in attendance for the game. The game will also be televised on Spectrum Sports Channel.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers head into the week with a 16-4 record overall, a 9-0 A-10 mark, and a 10-game winning streak. Dayton is 8-1 at home this season with the lone home loss coming to nationally ranked Green Bay on Dec. 6.

Head coach Shauna Green is in her second season at the helm of the Flyers after going 22-10 in her first campaign last year. The WBCA National Rookie Coach of the Year returns an experienced squad with three seniors, six juniors, and three starters.

As a team, Dayton leads the A-10 in scoring offense, scoring margin, field goal percentage, and field goal percentage defense. The Flyers are shooting 43.4 percent overall, 38.4 from three-point range, and 70.8 percent from the free throw line.

The Flyers are led by senior Jenna Burdette, who is scoring 16.1 points per game which ranks eighth in the A-10. Sophomore Jayla Scaife is chipping in 15.1 points each contest while senior JaVonna Layfield is averaging a double-double with 11.7 points and 12.8 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING DUQUESNE
Duquesne trails Dayton by one game in the A-10 standings with an 8-0 conference mark, but does boast a better record overall at 18-3. The Dukes are 7-2 on the road this season and have an eight-game winning streak. Duquesne last loss came at No. 1 UConn on Dec. 22. Head coach Dan Burt is in his fourth season in charge.

The Dukes lead the A-10 in blocked shots and three point field goals made, while scoring 71.1 points per game. Duquesne shoots 42.9 percent from the floor, 38.2 percent from behind the arc, and 73.9 percent from the charity stripe.

Chassidy Omogrosso ranks fourth in the A-10 in scoring with 16.8 points per game to go with a 40.1 shooting percentage from three-point range. Julijana Vojinovic is right behind her with 16.1 points each contest while leading the team in assists as well.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton won its 10th in a row with an 85-68 victory at Davidson Saturday. The Flyers scored 53 points in the second half alone and had four players in double figures scoring. Burdette led the way with 29 points and seven made three's.

Duquesne picked up its 18th win of the season with a 79-53 win over St. Bonaventure Sunday. Chassidy Omogross scored a team-high 20 points while three other Dukes scored in double  digits.

THE SERIES
The Flyers and Dukes have played 41 times previously in what has been a close series. Dayton has 22 wins compared to Duquesne's 19 all-time. UD was victorious in all three meetings last season, including the Atlantic 10 Championship in RIchmond, 70-56. The Flyers are on a three-game winning streak over the Dukes.

UP NEXT
The Flyers remain at home to host VCU Sunday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at UD Arena. The game is televised on CBS Sports Network. It will also be the Pink Game for Breast Cancer Awareness.
