Tucker Yinger's Big Day Leads Football Over Jacksonville 34-7

Flyer Senior Has Third Straight 200-Yard Game & Finishes As UD's All-Time Leading Rusher

JACKSONVILLE -- University of Dayton senior running back Tucker Yinger capped off a brilliant career Saturday to lead Dayton to a season-ending 34-7 win over Jacksonville. Yinger, who began the game needing 27 yards to tie Connor Kacsor's Dayton career rushing record, gained 203 on 21 attempts. Yinger finished with 3,757 yards, including a career-best 1,340 this season.

The Flyers earned their 40th winning season in the last 42 years with a final record of 6-5. UD was 5-3 in the Pioneer Football League.

RECAP
FIRST QUARTER

- Jacksonville quarterback Calvin Turner, who entered the game with 1,429 rushing yards, was carted off the field after suffering an apparent leg injury on the opening drive of the game for the Dolphins.
- Needing 28 yards coming into the game to break Connor Kacsor's all-time rushing record, Tucker Yinger set the new record on the opening drive, racking up 29 yards on his first two carries of the game.
-Joe Bruni put Dayton on the board first connecting on a 27-yard field with 2:16 to play in the quarter.

SECOND QUARTER
- Jacksonville threatened to answer with a score of its own early in the second quarter, driving all the way down to the UD 14-yard line for a crucial 4th-and-4. The Dolphins left their offense on the field for the fourth down conversion, but Nick Surges made a huge stop at the line of scrimmage to hold Jacksonville short and off the scoreboard.
- Following the fourth down stop, Tucker Yinger wasted no time getting the ball back into JU territory with a 39-yard gain on the first play of the drive. Jack Cook and Richie Warfield both had rushes of 16 yards or longer later on in the drive and Cook snuck in for a 1-yard touchdown to cap off the drive, giving Dayton a 10-0 lead with 10:31 remaining in the half.
- Christian McDermott recovered a fumble for Dayton at midfield after Xaiyhir Jacobs struggled fielding the snap cleanly for Jacksonville, giving the Flyer offense a short field. Sean Prophit cashed in with a six-yard rushing score to give UD a 17-0 lead.
- Bruni made his second field goal of the game, this one from 22 yards out, to extend the Dayton lead to 20-0 with under a minute to play in the half.

THIRD QUARTER
- Tucker Yinger became the third Flyer with a rushing touchdown following a seven-yard carry into the end zone on the opening drive of the second half.
- Adam Trautman corralled a four-yard touchdown pass from Jack Cook with 3:04 remaining in the third quarter. The score was Trautman's ninth touchdown reception of the season, tying him for second all-time in a single season.

FOURTH QUARTER
-With a Jacksonville ball carrier barreling towards the goal line and inside the 2-yard line, David Leisring forced a fumble, sending the ball through the back of the end zone for a touchback to preserve the Dayton shutout for the time being with just over five minutes to play.
- Jacksonville got on the board with just 1:10 left in the game on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Walker Wright to Craige Saxton.
