COLUMBIA, S.C. - The University of Dayton women's basketball team led for the majority of the game, but suffered a 65-55 loss at No. 18/19 South Carolina Wednesday.
 
It was the toughest environment for Dayton (2-4) this season, playing in front of 10,423 Gamecock (4-3) fans.

KEY MOMENT
4^th quarter – After entering the fourth quarter with a two-point ball game at 53-51, South Carolina outscored Dayton 12-4 in the final 10 minutes.

GAME BREAKDOWN
      1st Quarter: Dayton 16, South Carolina 13

• Dayton jumped out a 9-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game.
• The Flyers got it to 14-2 before forcing a South Carolina timeout.
• UD was 6-of-7 to start the game while holding USC to 12.5 percent shooting.
• A South Carolina free throw ended a 3:30 scoring drought.
• The Gamecocks closed the gap to 16-9 by the 2:33 mark.
• Dayton shot 41.2 percent in the opening quarter while holding South Carolina to 29.4 percent.
• UD outrebounded USC 13-9.

2nd Quarter: Dayton 30, South Carolina 30

• South Carolina did not get called for its first foul until the 7:42 mark in the second quarter.
• Dayton ended its own scoring skid with a jumper by Araion Bradshaw with 7:18 to go in the quarter.
• The defenses settled in for the next few minutes with points hard to come by.
• By the media break, South Carolina had taken its first lead of the game at 22-20.
• Dayton stayed with the Gamecocks over the next few minutes as USC was unable to extend its lead out of reach.
• A Jordan Wilmoth three tied the game up at 28-28 with under a minute to play.
• The score was even at 30-30 going into the locker room.
• At the half, Dayton shot 38.7 percent from the field and hit three three-pointers while South Carolina shot 37.5 percent and were held without a three.
• UD outrebounded USC 20-17 and had a 5-2 assists advantage.
• Redshirt junior Julia Chandler led the way with 12 points while Bradshaw added nine points, six rebounds, and two assists.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 51, South Carolina 53

• Dayton took the lead in the early stages of the second half, 35-34.
• Lauren Cannatelli hit a three at the 7:20 mark to put the Flyers up four.
• By the media timeout, Dayton led 40-38 despite having zero field goals for a 2:24 stretch.
• South Carolina answered with a three though and led 42-40 with four minutes left. Shakeela Fowler responded with a three of her own to put UD back up.
• Dayton suffered during a two-plus minute scoring drought heading into the final two minutes of the third, allowing South Carolina to lead 46-43.
• A pair of late Cannatelli threes pulled Dayton back, a buzzer beating layup gave USC a two-point lead.

4th Quarter: Dayton 55, South Carolina 65

• Dayton didn't get its first point of the fourth quarter until the 7:24 mark.
• They hung with the Gamecocks though, staying within four points for the next few minutes.
• The Flyers went into the media break with a 2:31 scoring drought and down 57-53.
• Fouls were well in South Carolina's favor 23-10 with three minutes left in the game.
• South Carolina called a timeout with 2:30 to go, leading 60-55.
• The Flyers were unable to mount a comeback and fell to the Gamecocks.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

41 to 30 – Despite outrebounding South Carolina in the first half 20-17, Dayton was outrebounded in the game 41 to 30.
15 – Julia Chandler had 15 points to lead Dayton.
11-6-3 – Araion Bradshaw had a strong showing in her return to South Carolina with 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
47.1 - Dayton shot 35.1 percent in the game, but 47.1 percent from behind the arc.
12 – The Flyers committed a season-low 12 turnovers.  

KEY STAT
Dayton fouled 23 times compared to South Carolina's 11 fouls, which resulted in 26 free throw attempts for the Gamecocks and just eight for the Flyers.
