DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season with a 67-58 win over Colgate at UD Arena. Friday's season opener was the Flyers' annual School Day as nearly 8,000 area school kids cheered UD on to victory.

Dayton is now 1-0 while Colgate slips to 0-2 on the young season.

KEY MOMENT
With just over six minutes left to play in the contest, junior
Jayla Scaife capped a Flyer 7-0 run with her made jumper to give Dayton a four-point, 55-51 advantage, a lead it would not relinquish.

1st Quarter: Dayton 19, Colgate 8
• Dayton scored the last six points of the quarter to hold an 11-point lead heading into the second period.

Julia Chandler scored the first two points of the game for Dayton. It was also her first career basket as a Flyer.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 30, Colgate 27
• Colgate was on fire to start the second period, scoring 10-straight points to cut the Dayton lead to one, 19-18.

Lauren Cannatelli kicked off a 7-0 spurt for the Flyers with three made free throws after drawing a foul behind the three-point arc.
• The Raiders' Mylah Chandler put in a driving layup as the buzzer sounded to cut the Flyer lead to three to end the quarter.
• UD's Chandler led all scorers in the first half of the game with six points.

3rd Quarter: Colgate 47, Dayton 43
• Colgate opened the third with a triple to knot the score at 30 points apiece.
• The score was tied four times in the third
• The Raiders were able to take the lead, 39-37, with 3:37 left to play in the frame on the strength of at 7-0 run

4th Quarter: Dayton 67, Colgate 58
• Five points from Scaife over the first two minutes of the fourth kick started the Flyers' offense.
• After a 7-0 Dayton run, the Flyers were in front of the Raiders, 55-51, with just over six minutes to play in the game.
• Chandler's made jumper with 1:58 showing on the clock gave Dayton's its largest lead of the game, 67-55.

• 17 & 8 - Chandler tallied a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action in her debut as a Flyer
