Box Score DAYTON – The Dayton women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to Belmont by a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. It was the second straight game that was tied at 3-3 heading into a deciding seventh point for the Flyers. Dayton defeated Austin Peay by a score of 4-3 on Friday night.
The Flyers fell in an early hole by dropping the doubles point with losses on court one and court three.
Anna Delaney and
Kelly Pleiman dropped their match by score of 6-2 at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, while
Marlys Bridgham and
Mattea Kilstofte put up an impressive fight at No. 1 doubles, but ultimately fell in a tiebreak, 7-6.
After struggling near the top of the lineup in singles play on Friday night, Bridgham and
Jackie Kawamoto delivered for the Flyers at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot in the lineup, respectively. Bridgham won her match in straight sets by a line of 6-1, 6-3, while Kawamoto prevailed in three sets by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Natalie Allen, who clinched the match for Dayton on Friday, came through with her second win of the weekend, defeating Sarah Brackin in a back-and-forth match that finished with a score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, to give the Flyers their third point of the match. With the team match tied at 3-3, it ultimately came down to court six, where junior
Kristina Benjamin presented tremendous effort and fight to force a third set against Nikki Christiansen, but ultimately dropped the match by a score of 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
Dayton will have its third match of the weekend on Sunday at 12 p.m. against IUPUI at the Five Seasons Sports Club. Look below for full results from Saturday's match:
