CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The University of Dayton softball team closed out the first weekend of the season with a 2-0 loss in its finale of Charlotte's First Pitch Classic. The Flyers move to 2-3 on the year while Radford improved to 6-2 overall.
KEY STAT
Senior left-handed
Manda Cash pitcher tallied eight strikeouts over six innings of work, recording her first complete game of the season. She is also the only Flyer to record a hit in the loss to Radford.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
With two outs, the sixth Radford batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring across the Highlanders' first run in the first inning. Dayton was able to get out of the jam with no further damage as Cash sat the next batter down swinging. The Flyers offense was quiet until the fifth inning when freshman
Abby Ehrenborg got onto first on a fielder's choice followed by Cash's single. The rally was quashed when a Flyer hit into a double play to end the frame trailing 1-0. Radford added one more run in the bottom of the fifth, again with two outs, after consecutive walks put a runner in scoring position for a subsequent RBI single.
UP NEXT
Dayton will return to Ohio for a couple of days before heading west to Santa Barbara. The Flyers will take part in the Gaucho Classic hosted by UCSB Feb. 22-24.
