SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The University of Dayton softball team splits its doubleheader at UCSB Thursday in the first day of the Gaucho Classic. The Flyers took game one, 8-5, while the Gauchos won the nightcap, 8-0 (6).
Dayton moves to 3-4 on the season while UCSB is now 5-7 for the year.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Game One: Dayton 8, UCSB 5
UCSB got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the first inning but Dayton answered with a three-spot in the top of the third as junior
Lisa Tassi singled in junior
Kayla Haberstich and freshman
Abby Ehrenborg followed with a two-run long ball. Two more Flyers touched home plate in the fourth as freshman
Briley Sidor scored her first career run and sophomore
Katherine Schwartz batted her first career triple to give Dayton a 5-1 advantage. The Gauchos were able to tie the game at five runs each after plating three in the fifth and one in the sixth. Dayton rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh and was able to hold off UCSB for the 8-5 win.

In the nightcap, UCSB scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back. Dayton had a runner in scoring position in the fourth and fifth innings but were unable to convert and was trailing 5-0 after five complete. The Gauchos added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to effectively end the game an inning early.

- .667 = junior Madi Maloof's batting average for the day. Maloof went 2-for-3 at the plate while also drawing one walk and recording two sacrifice hits
