#UDSB Drops 6-3 Decision To San Diego Saturday Afternoon

Budicin Tallied Three Singles For The Flyers

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The University of Dayton softball team dropped a 6-3 decision to San Diego Saturday in the Flyers' UCSB Gaucho Classic finale. Senior Kailee Budicin led the team with a 3-for-3 day at the plate.

Dayton is now 4-6 on the season while San Diego improved to 8-7 overall.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
San Diego kicked off the first inning by plating two quick runs and was in front of Dayton, 3-0, after a single runner scored in the second. The Flyers capitalized on three consecutive hits in the fourth, scoring three to even the game at three runs apiece. Back-to-back sacrifice fly-outs in the fifth pushed across two more runs for the Toreros and USD didn't look back. San Diego tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to set the score at 6-3, which would prove to be the final margin. Dayton had runners on first and third in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to convert.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • 3-for-3 = Budicin was a perfect 3-for-3 with one walk at the plate. She also recorded two putouts and two assists.

UP NEXT
Dayton will play a single game at No. 23 Kentucky on Thursday, March 1 before heading to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to take part in the WKU Hilltopper Spring Fling. First pitch between the Flyers and Wildcats is set for 4 p.m. at John Cropp Stadium.
