Box Score DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's tennis team won its match against Illinois State by a score of 4-3 on Sunday morning. The Flyers got the game-winning point from freshman Kelly Pleiman at the No. 5 spot in the singles lineup to clinch the match. It was Dayton's fourth game this season with a 4-3 finish and the Flyers hold a 3-1 record in those games in dual play. The Flyers now own an overall record of 7-5 this season, while the Redbirds fall to 7-3.

The Flyers suffered an early setback in the match by dropping the doubles point. Dayton and Illinois State split courts two and three in doubles play, both finishing with scores of 6-4, including Jade and Jackie Kawamoto winning their match on court two. The Redbirds clinched the opening point of the match with a 7-6 (3) win over Marlys Bridgham and Mattea Kilstofte on court one.

Jade Kawamoto was the first player to finish her match in singles and raced to a 6-3, 6-0 straight-set victory at No. 4 singles to tie up the match. Jackie Kawamoto and Mattea Kilstofte also won their matches in straight sets by scores of 6-4, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-4, respectively. After Illinois State picked up wins on courts one and six, the match was tied up at three apiece and came down to the No. 5 singles spot, where Pleiman matched up with Illinois State's Laura Fitzgerald. Pleiman dropped the first sets by a score of 6-3, but bounced back strong to win a convincing second set by a 6-2 margin. She opened the third and deciding set with a 3-2 lead, but Fitzgerald won the next two games to take back the lead, 4-3. Despite losing her lead from earlier in the set, Pleiman was able to keep her composure and rattled off three straight points to clinch the match and give Dayton a team victory.
