Box Score 2 DAYTON – Dayton men's tennis team bounced back from a Friday loss to Butler on Sunday with two resounding 4-0 wins over Eastern Illinois and Wright State. The Flyers record now improves to 5-2 overall this season.
The Flyers came out strong against with a lot of energy against Eastern Illinois to open the day and picked up a pair of 6-1 victories from Benjamin/Jener on court two and Harper/Jayaram on court three.
Momentum carried over from Dayton's strong start in doubles play, as the Flyers won the first set in all six of the singles matches. A trio of freshmen were responsible for scoring the final three points for Dayton in the match.
Will Harper, who was making his debut in the lineup for the Flyers, was the first to finish with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court five over Jared Woodson. Theo Jener was the next to finish on court four with a 6-3, 6-3 win and
Jayman Jhattu, who also made his season debut in the lineup, clinched the match for Dayton with a 6-0, 7-5 decision on court six.
After getting a few hours to recover from its match against Eastern Illinois, Dayton came out and showed much of the same energy that it showed in its first match from the get-go against Wright State. The Flyers once again quickly secured the doubles point, this time with wins from Fisher/Berry and Harper/Jayaram, by scores of 6-1 and 6-2, respectively.
Dayton refused to let up in singles matches and clinched the match with three straight victories in singles play for the second consecutive match. Senior
Carsten Fisher quickly defeated his opponent on court two by a line of 6-2, 6-1, and he was closely followed in victory by sophomore
Steven Karl, who won his match by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Theo Jener put the nail in the coffin against Wright State and clinched the win at the No. 4 spot in the lineup with a 6-1, 6-3 win.
