The Flyers Defeated VCU, 74-64

DAYTON– The University of Dayton women's basketball team remained undefeated in Atlantic 10 play with a 74-64 victory over VCU. The Flyers were led by Jenna Burdette with 23 points. 

The Flyers (18-4, 11-0 A-10) remain on top in Atlantic 10 play after defeating the Rams (5-16, 2-7 A-10).

KEY MOMENT
  • In the fourth quarter with 2:29 to play, Dayton ended VCU's run and used the free-throw line the rest of the way to seal the win.  
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1ST Quarter: Dayton 19, VCU 8
  • Senior Jenna Burdette opened the game with the first five points for the Flyers. 
  • At the first media time out, the Flyers led by one with a score of 7-6.
  • The Flyers closed the first quarter with a score 19-8.
  • Senior JaVonna Layfield got two steals in the first quarter.
  • Burdette led in points with seven.
 
2nd Quarter: Dayton 40, VCU 20
  • Harris opened the second quarter with two good jumpers to lead in points with eight.

  • At the end of the quarter, Layfield was a rebound away from her 12th double-double this season. 
  • Despite the VCU run, Dayton still outscored the Rams 19-16 in the third. 
  • The Flyers had multiple starters on the bench due to foul trouble.
 
4th Quarter: Dayton 79, VCU 70
  • The Flyers shot 60 percent from the three-point line.
  • The Flyers continued to outrebound the rams 37-26.
  • At the timeout, the Flyers were 51 percent in field-goal conversions
  • Burdette scored a jumper to end the Flyers' scoring drought of 2:08
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • 41-33 – Dayton controlled the boards over VCU 41-32.
  • 20-7 – The Flyers ended the game with an assist total of 20 while holding the Rams to seven.
  • 13-6 – Despite having more turnovers than the rams, the Flyers still took the win by scoring 13 points from a turnover in comparison to six from VCU.
