#UDWBB Wins Big On The Road At UMass

Dayton Picked Up Its 13th Straight Win

AMHERST, Mass.  – The University of Dayton's women basketball team went on the road to the University of Massachusetts and picked up a huge win, 78-49.  

The Flyers (19-4, 12-0 A-10) won their 13th in a row while the Minutewomen (11-13, 3-8 A-10) continue to struggle in conference play

KEY MOMENT
3rd quarter – Dayton led early, but a strong second quarter had Massachusetts pulling closer. The third quarter saw the Flyers come out and outscore the Minutewomen, 24-11 in the third quarter, clinching the game.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1ST Quarter: Dayton 22, UMass 11
  • UMass jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, before Dayton tied it up at the 7:38 mark.
  • After trailing early, the Flyers countered with a 7-0 run.
  • The Minutewomen were forced to take a timeout at the 5:07 mark as the Flyers turned their rally into a 13-2 run.
  • Dayton took a 10-point lead with 4:37 to play on a putback by senior JaVonna Layfield.
  • UMass suffered during a 3:10 scoring drought.
  • Senior Alex Harris, junior Lauren Cannatelli, and senior Jenna Burdette had six points each to lead the balanced UD attack.

  • Halfway through the second quarter, Dayton led UMass 31-19.
  • The Minutewomen starters began to run into foul trouble with multiple players picking up their second foul.
  • UMass' leading scorer Hailey Leidel didn't get her first points until the 2:22 mark in the second.
  • The Minutewomen hit a couple of late three's to close the gap to 12 after the Flyers had led by as much as 15.
  • Cannatelli led UD in scoring in the first 20 minutes with 15 points and four three's.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 63, UMass 38
  • Cannatelli hit her fifth three of the game to start the second half.
  • The Flyers pulled away, pushing their advantage to 19 at 49-30.
  • That run forced a UMass timeout at the 6:39 mark with Dayton leading 51-30.
  • By the media timeout, Dayton led 53-34.
  • The bench provided a spark on the defensive end and was able to hold the Minutewomen in check for the most part.
  • Dayton managed its largest lead of the night with just under a 1:30 to play, taking a 23-point lead.
4th Quarter: Dayton 78, UMass 49
  • UMass jumped out with a 5-0 run to close the gap.
  • The Flyers answered and stopped the Minutewomen rally and extended the lead back to 28 at 73-45.
  • UMass called its final timeout at the 5:15 mark with Dayton ahead 75-45.
  • Dayton head too much firepower down the stretch and kept the game out of reach.
