Box Score The University of Dayton men's tennis team defeated Xavier on Friday by a score of 6-1. The win was the Flyers first over the Musketeers since 2006, when Dayton defeated Xavier in the Atlantic 10 Conference Semifinals by a 4-3 margin. The win improves Dayton's record to 15-3 this season, matching the team's win total from a season ago.
The Flyers were victorious in both completed doubles matches, with seniors
Zach Berry and
Carsten Fisher taking court one with a 6-4 win over Jack Dykema and Gabriel Araujo.
Lorenzo Rollhauser and
Steven Karl were the other Flyers to score a doubles win by defeating Brett Winters and Jan Brba, 7-5, in No. 3 doubles.
Dayton won the singles matchup in each of the top five spots of the lineup, including
Jordan Benjamin securing his 14th consecutive win this season with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Dykema.
Zach Berry,
Theo Jener and
Steven Karl also took their matches in straight sets, while
Carsten Fisher split his first two sets, then battled to come away victorious in the third set by winning the tiebreaker, 8-6.
The Flyers will have the next two weekends off before hosting a pair of Big Ten Conference teams at the Five Seasons Sports Club. Iowa will make the trip out east to Dayton for a match on Apr. 6 at 11 a.m., while the Flyers will take on Nebraska on Apr. 8 at 7 p.m.
