OXFORD, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team swept its first two games of the Miami Invitational Friday with a 9-4 win over Fort Wayne followed by a 2-1 win over Robert Morris. Juniors
Kelly Fitzgerald and
Lisa Tassi each tallied a home run on the day.
Dayton improves to 7-12 on the season while Fort Wayne is now 10-17 and Robert Morris moves to 6-16.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Game One: Dayton 9, Fort Wayne 4
Dayton got on the board first with two runs in the top of the third but Fort Wayne answered with a four-spot in the bottom of the frame on the strength of five hits. The Flyers were able to tie the game in the fourth as sophomore
Ellie Ziegler and Fitzgerald each scored. Junior
Kayla Haberstich plated junior
Kyle Davidson in the top of the seventh for what proved to be the winning run and four more Flyers came home in the frame as well to put the game out of reach.

Game Two: Dayton 2, Robert Morris 1
Fitzgerald doubled in Ziegler in the second inning of game two to get the Flyers on the board first. Robert Morris' McCartney sent a ball screaming over the right field fence in the top of the fourth to even the score a 1-1. Tassi answered with her own long ball, her first of the season, to score the game-winning run.

Losing pitcher: Ellzy (2-3)
