#UDBASE Falls To Bowling Green, 5-4

Bowling Green Hit A Walk-Off Single With The Bases Loaded And Two Outs In The Ninth Inning

Bowling Green, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team dropped a game to Bowling Green by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday evening in nail-biting fashion. With two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth inning, the Falcons hit a walk-off single to win the game. Dayton falls to 5-11 with the loss, while Bowling Green improves to 4-16.

KEY MOMENT
Tyler Jones retired the first two Bowling Green hitters in the ninth, but the Falcons responded with back-to-back two-out singles. The consecutive hits prompted several defensive changes for Dayton, including moving Pat Meehan from second base to the mound for his first pitching appearance of the season. Meehan hit the first batter he faced with a pitch to load the bases and the following hitter looped a line drive into right field to drive home the winning run.

SCORING SUMMARY
Bottom 2nd:
Gama Martinez doubled down the right field line to score Nick Neibauer. Bowling Green 1, Dayton 0
Top 3rd:
Tate Hagan and Bailey Montoya opened the inning with back-to-back walks and both advanced 90 feet following a Brantley Johnson sacrifice bunt. Hagan scored on a Pat Meehan sac fly and Montoya scored along with Mitchell Garrity on a Brandon Smith two-run double. Dayton 3, Bowling Green 1
Bottom 4th:
Much like how Dayton scored in the third, the first two batters for Bowling Green both reached base and advanced on a sac bunt. The first runner scored on an RBI single to center field and the second runner scored on an error from Connor Echols in left field. Dayton 3, Bowling Green 3
Bottom 5th:
Joe McGunniess led off the bottom half of the fifth with a double and then scored two batters later when Derek Drewes roped a ball down the left field line. Bowling Green 4, Dayton 3
Top 6th:
With Brandon Smith on first and the hit-and-run play on, Takahiro Yamada hit a single through the right side of the infield to advanced Smith to third. Smith scored on a Connor Echols RBI single immediately following Yamada's at-bat. Dayton 4, Bowling Green 4
Bottom 9th:
Dylan Dohanos looped a line drive into right field to drive home the winning run with the bases loaded and two out. Bowling Green 5, Dayton 4
