YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team split its mid-week doubleheader with Youngstown State Wednesday, taking the first game, 5-3, and falling in the second, 5-0. On the day, senior
Kailee Budicin was 4-for-7 at the plate and junior
Kayla Haberstich belted out a three-run homer in the first game.
Dayton is now 9-18 on the season and Youngstown State moves to 10-15 overall.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Game One: Dayton 5, Youngstown State 3
Freshman
Abby Ehrenborg led off the second inning with a long ball over the right-center-field fence to get the scoring started and Youngstown State evened the score with a run in the fourth. With runners at second and third, Haberstich sent a two-out home run sailing over the right field fence to give Dayton a 4-1 advantage and the lead for good. Junior
Lisa Tassi scored in the sixth for the Flyers to add a little cushion to the UD lead before YSU rallied for two runs in the bottom of the frame. Dayton would hold Youngstown State scoreless in the final inning to take the game, 5-3.

Youngstown State was able to score all five of its runs in the first three innings, including a two-run homer in the third. Dayton was able to get runners in scoring position in the fifth, sixth and seventh but were not able to convert. Junior
Kelly Fitzgerald was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Flyers in the nightcap.
