#UDBASE Falls In Doubleheader Vs. Saint Louis On Friday

The Series Is Scheduled To Conclude On Saturday At 4 PM

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team was swept in a doubleheader on Friday against Saint Louis. The Flyers had a six-run ninth inning and nearly overcame a 9-2 deficit heading into the bottom half of the frame, but fell just short in their comeback efforts. In game two, Saint Louis jumped out to a 6-2 lead by the bottom of the fifth inning and the Flyers were unable to dig themselves out of the early hole, eventually falling by an 8-4 margin. Dayton now has a record of 8-21 (2-6 A-10), while Saint Louis maintains its lead in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a record of 23-9 (10-1 A-10).

KEY MOMENTS
Game One:
Dayton nearly pulled off a tremendous comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning in the first game of the day. Trailing 9-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth, three of the first four Dayton batters singled, including Brantley Johnson, Mitchell Garrity and Connor Echols to load the bases with one out. Brandon Smith drew a walk to force home Johnson, but was followed by a Tate Hagan flyout, to make the score 9-3 with two out. Takahiro Yamada hit an infield single to score Garrity and Michael Cleary followed Yamada's base hit with a single of his own that scored both Meehan and Smith and bring Dayton's deficit down to just three. Yamada would score on a passed ball, moving Cleary up to second and Jonathan Brus, who was pinch-hitting for Brett Wells, earned his first-career hit with a single to left field to plate Cleary. With the game-tying run on first, Brantley Johnson struck out to end the game.

Game Two:
Saint Louis scored three runs in the top of the fifth to extend its lead to four runs, which would prove to much for Dayton to overcome in game two. Alex King hit a two-run home run in the fifth to start the scoring for the Billikens in the fifth and King was immediately followed by a Parker Sniatynski double down the left field line and a Jake Garella single that drove home Sniatynski.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Game One: - Balanced Offensive Attack
All nine of Dayton's starters reached base in game one of the doubleheader and all eight runs were scored by a different player, as well as six different players with an RBI. Michael Cleary and Connor Echols led the team with two hits apiece.

Game Two – 1B Brandon Smith (R-Sophomore, Floyd Knobs, Ind.)
Brandon Smith hit a deep two-run blast that cleared the center field wall at Woerner Field with ease in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game up at 2-2. The home run was Smith's third in four games and his fifth of the season. Smith finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs driven in and a run scored.
