Softball Outlasts Purdue, 6-3, In Extra Innings

Budicin Scores Winning Run in the Top of the Ninth

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Dayton softball team outlasted Purdue, 6-3, in nine innings Wednesday. The non-conference match-up was held at Purdue's Bittinger Stadium.

Dayton is now 21-19 on the season while Purdue moves to 12-32 overall.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings but junior Kyle Davidson led off the third with a double and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior Kayla Haberstich. Senior Kailee Budicin singled through the left side, scoring Davidson to give UD a 1-0 lead. Purdue plated one in the bottom of the third with a RBI single to even the game at 1-1. The Boilermakers used another RBI single to score one in the fifth to move in front, 2-1, but the Flyers knotted the game at two runs apiece in the top of the sixth as pinch runner freshman Briley Sidor scored on sophomore Ellie Ziegler's single. In the top of the seventh, Davidson again led off the inning with a double and Budicin batted her in but Purdue answered with a single run in the bottom of the frame to send the game to extra innings. Junior Lisa Tassi doubled off the top of the left-field wall in the ninth, scoring Budicin which would prove to be the winning run. With two outs and two on, Ziegler doubled in both for two more as Dayton would hold on for the 6-3 win.
