Box Score DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's tennis team defeated Eastern Michigan by a score of 5-2 on Friday night. The Flyers improve to 13-7 overall this season with the win and the Eagles drop to 14-7 after also losing to Miami (Ohio) earlier in the day.
Dayton started strong and jumped out to a 1-0 lead after two quick wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Marlys Bridgham and
Mattea Kilstofte won on court one by a score of 6-3, while Jackie and
Jade Kawamoto won by a 6-2 margin.
Jade Kawamoto clinched the match for the Flyers in singles play with a dramatic, come-from-behind 6-4, 7-5 win in No. 3 singles. Kawamoto was trailing 5-2 in the second set of her match, but stormed all the way back to win the next five games in the set to win the match and clinch the team victory for Dayton.
Mattea Kilstofte,
Jackie Kawamoto and
Natalie Allen also all picked up straight-set wins in their singles matches to help propel the Flyers to the win.
Next match for the Flyers will be Senior Day at Five Seasons Sports Club on Wednesday, April 11 at 1 p.m. against Northern Kentucky. The three Dayton seniors that will be honored include
Marlys Bridgham,
Jackie Kawamoto and
Jade Kawamoto. The trio has helped lead the Flyers to two winning seasons in their four-year careers and have been tremendous leaders both on and off the court.
