DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team completed the Atlantic 10 sweep of La Salle Sunday with wins of 3-2 and 10-2 (5) at UD Softball Stadium. Junior
Kyle Davidson was a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with two sacrifice hits on the day to go with 14 putouts behind the plate in game one.
The Flyers improve to 16-19 overall and 7-4 in A-10 games while La Salle is now 9-19 on the season and 2-6 in league play.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
Game One: Dayton 3, La Salle 2
Davidson led off the game with a double to right field and was moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior
Kayla Haberstich. Senior
Kailee Budicin was put out at first as Davidson scurried home to score the Flyers' first run of the game. Dayton remained in front, 1-0, until La Salle put together a two-run inning in the top of the fifth. UD evened the game at two runs apiece in the bottom of the fifth as junior
Lisa Tassi singled in Davidson. Freshman
Morgan Mateja led off the sixth with a single up the middle, was sacrificed over to second, made it to third on a Davidson single and crossed home on a bad throw by the Explorers' shortstop, scoring the game-winning run.
Winning pitcher:
Jessica Weaver (3-7)
Losing pitcher: Reilly Gearhart (5-5)
Game Two: Dayton 10, La Salle 2 (5)
Tassi collected two RBI in the first inning after her double plated Davidson and Budicin. She was able to get to third on a wild pitch and scored the third run of the frame on a single to short by junior
Kelly Fitzgerald. The Flyers got another run across in the third when freshman
Abby Ehrenborg scored on sophomore
Julia Blarr's single. La Salle scored its two runs in the top of the fourth, cutting the Dayton advantage to 4-2, but that would be as close as they would get. With two runners on and two outs, Ehrenborg blasted out her sixth home run of the season to collect three RBI. Fitzgerald followed with a single and Blarr followed suit with a home run of her own for two more RBI. The Flyers and Explorers headed to the fifth with UD in front, 9-2. La Salle was unable to score in the fifth and Budicin stepped to the plate with the bases loaded, batting a single to score the game-ending run.
Winning pitcher:
Jessica Gilliam (6-6)
Losing pitcher: Marlo Roadcap (3-11)
