HARRISONBURG, Va. – The University of Dayton women's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 2-1 win over James Madison at Sentara Park in the second match of the JMU Fairfield by Marriott Invitational Thursday night.
Dayton starts the season 1-0-0, while JMU is 0-1-0. This marks the first time the Flyers have defeated the Dukes in three meetings.
KEY STATS
• Dayton had five corner kicks, while JMU had just three. The Flyers also had four shots on goal, to just three for the Dukes.
• James Madison had 16 fouls, to just five for Dayton.
KEY MOMENTS
• Senior
Kaelyn Johns made a huge diving save in the 16th minute on a JMU breakaway to keep the game tied at 0-0. The score was 0-0 at the half.
• JMU struck first in the 70
th minute on an arching free kick by Lizzy Lazzaro from about 40 yards out.
• Freshman
Hannah Osland answered less than 10 minutes later, in the 80th minute, with her first collegiate goal, beautifully set up by senior
Quincy Kellett.
• Freshman
Izzy Greene scored the game winner in the 89th minute. She shot the ball. The goalkeeper got a piece of it and it spun back toward the goal. Greene followed it up to ensure it went in for her first collegiate goal.

UP NEXT
• Dayton continues action in the JMU Invitational, taking on William & Mary Sunday, Aug. 19 at 11:30 a.m. The Tribe fell to Maryland 2-1 in the first match of the invitational.
• The Flyers will then come home to take on Louisville at Baujan Field Thursday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
