Rollhauser, Harper Win Flights For #UDMTEN

The Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational Was The First Tournament Of The Season For Dayton Tennis

Box Score The Dayton men's tennis team completed its first tournament of the fall season on Saturday at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational.

Senior Lorenzo Rollhauser and sophomore Will Harper both won their respective flights by posting perfect 3-0 records over the weekend. Rollhauser won his flight by toppling Xavier's Oliver Weaver in the finals, while Harper defeated Weaver's teammate at Xavier Jan Vrba by a score of 7-6, 6-2 to claim the crown in his flight.

Four other Flyers advanced to the finals of their singles flights, including Steven Karl and Langford Hills, who both went 2-0 this weekend, but were placed in the same flight and did not play each other in the finals. Jordan Benjamin and Spencer Richey also reached the finals of their flight, but dropped the final match of the weekend. Benjamin won his first set, but battled cramps in the 90 degree heat for the remainder of the match before eventually falling in three sets, 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (8).

On the doubles side, Benjamin and Richey looked sharp and went undefeated in three matches, outscoring their opponents 18 games to just five.

Dayton will be back in action next weekend as the majority of the team will compete at the UD Hidden Duals from Sept. 21-22 at the Graul Tennis Complex, while Jordan Benjamin is slated to compete at the Oracle Masters in Malibu, Calif. Beginning on Thursday.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
Sophomore Will Harper
On getting to compete against players from other schools for the first time this season:
"It felt great to compete against other schools because this time of year is all about playing a lot of matches and getting a sense for where you're at in terms of your game moving into the spring season. The conditions this weekend were difficult (90+ degree heat), so fitness became the deciding factor in some of the matches."

On what led to his success this weekend:
"I was practicing really well leading up to this tournament and I felt like I had to set the tone for my year, so I just competed really hard and trusted my strengths in key moments. The support from the Dayton tennis family is always stellar, so I was able to play off their energy as well when I needed it most."

On improving from year one to year two of his collegiate career:
"That first season of collegiate experience is extremely valuable for any player at this level, but my experiences from last year have prepared and fueled me for this upcoming season. I feel like I"ve improved in every area of my game, but I know that there are a lot of guys out there that are improving as well and that is what keeps me going."
