DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's soccer team played 110 minutes at Oakland University Tuesday, but was unable to get the win on the road.
The Flyers (4-1-3) led early in the second half, but the Grizzlies (4-2-2) tied the game just six minutes later.
KEY STATS
- Dayton played its third overtime contest of the season.
- Freshman Andrew Cross scored the first goal of his Dayton career with a strike low and to the far post to put UD ahead in the 57th minute. Fellow freshman Elias Harryson provided the assist, his first of the year.
- Oakland evened the score up with a goal in the 63rd minute, forcing overtime.
- The Flyers and Grizzlies both recorded 17 shots in the game with UD putting six on frame and OU getting seven on goal.
- Fouls were 22 to 13 in favor of Oakland.
- Sophomore Jonas Fjeldberg led the team with five shots while junior Rok Taneski recorded four.
- Goalkeeper Federico Barrios posted five saves in 110 minutes.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"It was a very competitive match on both sides tonight," said head coach
Dennis Currier. "Overall, we were solid, but probably lacked that extra quality you need to finish off a game like that. We look forward to being back home to finish our last two non-conference games."
