Football Travels To Southeast Missouri

Flyers Are 1-0 After Last Week’s 21-Point Win Over Robert Morris

DAYTON -- The University of Dayton Flyers go on the road for the first time in 2018, making their first-ever trip to Cape Girardeau, Mo. to take on Southeast Missouri.    Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.  The game can be heard on WHIO Radio, and will be video streamed on ESPN+.

Dayton opened its 111th season of varsity football last Saturday with a 49-28 win over Robert Morris.

SEMO is the second of three scholarship programs UD will play in the non-conference portion of the schedule.  Robert Morris and next week's opponent, Duquesne, play in the NEC.  SEMO is a member of the OVC.  Dayton plays in the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League.

OT Ben Gauthier and DE Nick Surges are the Flyer football captains this year.  Matt Tunnacliffe is UD's special teams captain.

Dayton was picked to finish second in the PFL in a preseason vote of the league's coaches.  Dayton has 12 championships to its credit the PFL's 25 seasons.   The original (and now the only) Division I strictly need-based football league began with charter members Butler, Dayton, Drake, Evansville, San Diego and Valparaiso.  UD's 114-37 record is the best in PFL history.  The Flyers' 12 league championships are three more than any other PFL team.

The Flyers entered the season with the fourth-best winning percentage (.744, 148-51) in FCS football since 2000 AND have produced the most football Academic All-Americans (29) at any level of competition in the same time frame.  The top five in winning percentage are Harvard (.782), North Dakota State (.778), Montana (.753), Dayton (.744), and San Diego (.741).

Dayton is on the road again next week before beginning Pioneer Football League play. The Flyers will play at Duquesne on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 12 Noon ET to finish off non-conference play.  UD returns home to take on Davidson on Sept. 22 in the PFL opener.
