WASHINGTON, D.C. Â - The University of Dayton women's basketball team had an opportunity to win it late at George Washington University, but was unable to get the game-winner Saturday. The Colonials held on for a 46-45 win over the Flyers.

The Flyers (7-7, 2-1 A-10) looked to avenge their A-10 Tournament Semifinals loss from last season against the tournament champion Colonials (5-11, 2-1 A-10), but fell just short.

th quarter – After getting off to a fast start in the first quarter, Dayton scored just five points in the fourth quarter when it looked to hang on to the lead.
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 17, GW 11
- Dayton was unable to score until the 7:41 mark with a jumper by junior Jayla Scaife as GW took the initial lead.
- Senior Lauren Cannatelli then hit a three just 30 seconds later to give the Flyers their first lead of the game, 5-3.
- Neila Luma had the first five points for GW.
- At the media break, Dayton held a 7-5 lead over the hosts.
- The Flyers came out of the timeout to push their advantage to 13-5 while the Colonials suffered from a 3:30 scoring drought.
- Dayton got its margin to double digits with 1:30 to play in the quarter.
- Scaife had six points to lead the Flyers in the first.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 27, GW 24
- Dayton got its lead back to 10 with two quick baskets in the first 45 seconds of the second.
- The offense slowed down for both teams over the next few minutes, as the defenses began forcing turnovers.
- Midway through the quarter, the Flyers led by seven, 23-16. Neither team had scored for the previous three minutes.
- GW answered out of the break and closed the gap to two at 23-21.
- Thanks to a trio of three's in the second quarter, the Colonials made it a three-point game going into the half.
- Scaife led UD with six points while Cannatelli had five points. Eight different Flyers scored in the first half.
- Dayton shot 48.0 percent in the first 20 minutes while GW shot 35.7 percent. UD was 1-of-6 from three and GW was 3-of-7.
- The Flyers did outrebound the Colonials, 20-11, but committed 11 turnovers.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 40, GW 33
- GW tied the game up at the start of the third with a three-pointer.
- The score remained tight over the next few minutes with neither team pulling away.
- Scaife got a bucket and a foul going into the media timeout, putting the Flyers up 31-29.
- The Flyers then went on a little run, taking a 40-21 lead heading into the final two minutes of the quarter.
- Dayton led by seven heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest.
4th Quarter: Dayton 45, GW 46
- Dayton got its first bucket of the fourth at the 7:38 mark by Scaife.
- The Colonials hit a three to take a 44-43 lead at the 5:59 mark, forcing a Flyer timeout as they looked to stifle the GW rally.
- Redshirt junior Julia Chandler drove and scored to put Dayton back up 45-44 with under three minutes to play.
- UD had the ball with :37 left in the game and down one as the Flyers called a timeout to set up the possession. They were unable to make the bucket however and were forced to foul.
- Dayton had another shot with nine seconds left after GW missed both free throws on the other end.
- The Flyers were unable to get the game winner in the end.
