Box Score DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's tennis team fell to Belmont by a score of 5-2 on Friday night at the Five Seasons Sports Complex. The Flyers are now 1-1 this season after opening 2019 with a 5-2 win over Toledo earlier in the week. The win marked three in a row for the Bruins, who now own a 3-1 record on the year.
The doubles point went down to the wire to open the match, as Belmont and Dayton split courts two and three, with
Langford Hills and
Steven Karl earning a win at No. 2 by a score of 6-4.
Jordan Benjamin and
Spencer Richey led 6-5 and led 40-0 to create a string of match points to clinch the opening point for the Flyers, but Henrik Inno and Marko Ilic battled back for the Bruins to take each of the next four points before going on to take the tiebreaker, 7-4.
Jordan Benjamin tied the match up at 1-1 with a quick 6-1, 6-3 win at the top court and the score stood at 2-2 following a
Steven Karl loss at No. 4 and a 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 for
Langford Hills. Belmont took back the lead with Jake Briggs's 6-1, 6-4 win over
Lorenzo Rollhauser at No. 5 to put the Bruins up 3-2.
Spencer Richey and
Will Harper dropped their first set on courts four and six, respectively, but both came withing reach of forcing third sets to keep the Flyers in the match. Richey led 4-1Â and Harper also led midway through in their second sets, but Belmont would comeback to win both courts and clinch the 5-2 victory. Look below for full results from today's match.
