Box Score Edwardsville, Ill. – The University of Dayton women's tennis team competed the Cougar Invite hosted by SIU Edwardsville this past weekend and posted a winning record as a team in both singles and doubles play. The Invite was in a hidden dual format and featured four teams, including Dayton, SIUE, Western Illinois and William Woods.
Sophomore Mary Brascia highlighted the weekend for the Flyers with a pair of wins in both doubles and singles play. Brascia was a perfect 2-0 in her singles matches, and won both in straight sets, with a 6-0, 7-6 (3) win over SIUE's Nicole Gomez, as well as a clean sweep over Hannah Meyer from William Woods by a 6-0, 6-0 margin. Brascia teamed with freshman Erica Wojcikiewicz in her doubles wins over SIUE and Western Illinois. Wojcikiewicz also had a strong weekend, with a 2-1 record in singles play to go along with the doubles wins earned with Brascia. Junior Kelly Pleiman also went 2-1 for the Flyers.
Dayton went 9-6 in singles as a team for the weekend, and posted a 6-4 mark in doubles matches for the weekend. The Flyers won a pair of matches in singles and doubles play against SIUE, while winning all six matches against Western Illinois and five of seven against William Woods.
The Cougar Invite was the final tournament of the fall for the Flyers, who will now await dual match play beginning in January.
