New UD Arena Security Procedures Announced

Policies Set For New Metal Detectors That Will Be Used At Arena Events

DAYTON – The University of Dayton has announced procedures and policies that will be used at UD Arena events with the implementation of new metal detectors that will be at all Arena entrances.

The following items are permitted to be carried through the metal detectors:
•    Wallet/coins
•    Cell phone
•    Belt
•    Keys
•    Watches

These items need to be placed on a security table, searched and will not be permitted to go through metal detectors:
•    Purses/small bags
•    Cameras

Fans are encouraged to not bring large purses, backpacks, and other large bags as these may be required to be returned to your car. (Note: The Arena does not have space to store items determined to be too large to bring into the event.)

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: firearms, knives/blades, weapons of any kind, outside food and drink, strollers, signs larger than 8.5" x 11", tripods, balloons, animals (with the exception of service animals), large bags or backpacks, camera with lenses longer than eight (8) inches, laser pointers, and noisemakers.

Those in wheelchairs, walkers or other metal-type assisting devices will be asked to go around the detectors and be hand-wanded. Although safe for all medical implants and pacemakers, anyone who does not feel comfortable walking through the metal detector can alert the event staff and be directed around to be hand-wanded.

To assist fans becoming accustomed to the new procedures, some early-season men's and women's basketball games will have earlier door-open times.

The women's exhibition game against Ashland on Nov. 1 will have doors open at 5:30 p.m. ET, 90 minutes before game time. Doors will open for the rest of the women's season 60 minutes before game time.

The first three men's games (exhibition game vs. Cedarville on Nov. 2, Indiana State on Nov. 9, and Charleston Southern on Nov. 16) will have doors open two hours prior to tip. For Cedarville this will be 3 p.m. ET (game time at 5 p.m. ET), while for Indiana State and Charleston Southern, it will be 5 p.m. ET (games times at 7 p.m. ET). For the remainder of the season, the doors will open 90 minutes prior to tip.

Fans are encouraged to take advantage of these earlier times to give themselves plenty of time to tour the newly-transformed UD Arena with the three-phase renovation project at its completion.
