Men's Soccer Continues A-10 Play At George Mason

The Flyers And Patriots Are Both 1-0 In A-10 Games This Season

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team returns to Atlantic 10 play with a road game at George Mason on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Fairfax, Va.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers are 5-5 overall this season and 1-0 in A-10 play. Dayton hs found most of its success at home, going 4-1 at Baujan, while going 1-2 in true road games this season.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 15th season at the helm of the Flyers, totaling 144 victories, the most in UD history. He leads a veteran squad this season with seven seniors and 10 returning starters.

Overall, Dayton is averaging 1.80 goals each contest and giving up 1.20 to opposing teams. The Flyers are being outshot each contest 13.6 to 13.2, but shooting at a higher percentage on goal.

The Flyers are led by junior Jonas Fjeldberg, who has team-highs of five goals, 10 points, and 37 shots. Freshman Toluwalase Oladeinbo has added four goals while fellow newcomer Xavier Zengue has three assists. Senior goalkeeper Federico Barrios is the reigning A-10 Defensive Player of the Week with four shutouts and 34 saves.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
GEORGE MASON

George Mason enters the weekend with a 2-7-1 record on the year and 1-0-0 in A-10 games. The Patriots are 1-2-1 at home this year, but hasn't won a game at George Mason Stadium since Aug. 30. Head coach Greg Andrulis is in his 15th season.

As a team, the Patriots are scoring just 0.80 goals per game while allowing 1.90 to opponents. GMU is being outshot by a 2.5 shot margin each match.

Leading the Patriots is Ryan Mingachos with four goals and one assist while Tunde Akinlosotu has chipped in two goals and three assists. George Mason has had three different goalkeepers see time this season with Tillman Theurich leading with five starts.

THE SERIES
Dayton and George Mason have played five times in series history with the Flyers winning once, Patriots winning twice, and two draws. Last season,   GMU won 1-0 in double overtime in the A-10 Tournament Semifinals.

LAST OUTING
Dayton ended its four-game winning streak with a tough 2-0 loss at Marshall, who only had one loss on the season entering the contest.

George Mason suffered a 2-0 loss at Longwood on Tuesday, its fifth road defeat of the year.

500 PROGRAM VICTORIES
With a 2-0 victory over No. 20 West Virginia on Sept. 21, Dayton recorded the 500th victory in program history.

TANESKI A SENIOR CLASS CANDIDATE
Senior midfielder Rok Taneski was named as a Top 30 Senior CLASS Award candidate this year, the lone selection from the Atlantic 10. The award is given to a male and female athlete that exhibit excellence in community, classroom, character, and competition.

BARRIOS NAMED A-10 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior goalkeeper Federico Barrios was named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30 after recording two shutouts the previous week with six saves.

OLADEINBO NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman forward Toluwalase Oladeinbo was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Sept. 23 after scoring three goals during a two game stretch for the Flyers.

BARRIOS NAMED PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE
Senior goalkeeper Federico Barrios was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference team as the lone keeper. The Colombia native led the league in save percentage last season with a .815 mark and totaled a conference-high eight shutouts to go with 53 saves.

BARRIOS NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Dayton goalkeeper Federico Barrios was named All-Tournament team at the Wolstein Classic on Sept. 1 after his performance in the two game stretch. He recorded a career-high nine saves in the contest against CSUN Sunday.

UP NEXT
Dayton continues A-10 play on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at VCU at 7 p.m.

PRESEASON
The Flyers went undefeated in the two exhibition games this year, finishing with a 2-0 win over IUPUI and a 0-0 draw against Bowling Green. Both shutouts took place at home with the Flyers defending Baujan Field.

DAYTON PICKED TO FINISH 4TH
The Atlantic 10 Conference released its preseason poll and picked the Flyers to finish fourth with 121 points. Dayton was predicted to finish behind favorites VCU (159), Saint Louis (146), and Rhode Island (142).
