Jhattu Wins Singles Title And Karl/Mavrodiev Win Doubles Crown At Purdue Invite

The ITA Regionals Await Dayton From Oct. 24-29 In Nashville

The University of Dayton men's tennis team had three players win championship matches to close out the Purdue Invite strong on Sunday morning. Jayman Jhattu ran the table in singles play with a 4-0 record this weekend, while Georgi Mavrodiev and Steven Karl won their doubles flight.

Jhattu lost the opening set by a 6-0 margin in his finals match against Nathan Balthazor of Marquette, but bounced back by grinding out a 7-5 win in the second set to force a third, during which he cruised to a 6-1 win to earn the title. Jhattu was a perfect 4-0 this weekend, including three consecutive straight-set victories to open the tournament.

Karl and Mavrodiev also played opponents from Marquette in doubles play, squaring off against Will Tennison and Julian Robinson. Karl and Mavrodiev won by a score of 6-2 to take home the crown.

With three players winning championship matches over the weekend, Dayton takes some positive momentum into the ITA Regionals, which will take place from Oct. 24-29 in Nashville at Vanderbilt University's campus.
