Men’s Soccer Cruises To A-10 Semifinals

The Flyers Defeated La Salle 4-0 Sunday

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's soccer team earned a 4-0 victory at home against La Salle to advance to the semifinals of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship.

The Flyers (12-7, 6-2 A-10) continues its seven-game winning streak while the Explorers (8-9-1, 4-5 A-10) end their campaign.

KEY STATS
  • Dayton took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute after sophomore Kingsford Adjei blasted a 30 yard goal into the top left corner.
  • Senior Daniel Dos Santos joins the score sheet after an overhead thru ball that he places into the bottom right corner in the 54th minute, assisted by seniors Laurel Aug and Dennis Ntsin.
  • Adjei adds another goal to his tally making his total goal count over the season to 10.
  • Junior Jonas Fjeldberg breaks thru from a beautifully threaded ball from Adjei, in which he wonderfully chips the ball over the Explorer's keeper for his 11th goal of the season.
  • Goalkeeper Federico Barrios had four saves in the contest.
  • Dayton has now won seven games in a row and has not allowed more than a single goal since Oct. 12.
  • The Flyers 42 goals this year rank fifth in the nation.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"It was an interesting game for the fact that we knew they were going to be gritty and a very direct team with a lot of balls in there, which I think we did well at picking up the second ball," said head coach Dennis Currier. "I think it was just a matter of time for the game to open up. I think once that happened, offensively, that is where we are very dangerous. Once we got going offensively, we became very accurate in the attacking third and we ended up getting the four goals today. Overall, it was a great result and being able to sustain the shutout, I thought was really good for the guys for the fact there were so many balls driven into the box, which makes it really difficult."

UP NEXT
  • The Flyers continue on in the A-10 Tournament, heading to the Bronx, N.Y. to face No. 2 seed VCU on Friday, Nov. 15.
