Jenna Giacone Set New Career High With 18 Points

DAYTON– The University of Dayton women's basketball team suffered a 75-49 loss to No. 6/10 ranked South Carolina.
 
The Flyers (2-1) started the season with a two-game win streak. The last home loss that the Flyers had was at the hands of Northeastern in overtime on Nov. 17,  2018. 
 
Senior Jenna Giacone set a new career and season high with 18 points. She also set a new career and season high with four three-point field goals.
 
KEY MOMENTS
 
1st – The Gamecocks outshot the Flyers from the field. South Carolina shot 53.8 percent compared to Dayton's 13.3 percent.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 6, South Carolina 22
  • The game started with a close score between the Flyers and the Gamecocks, with the Flyers only down by three points at the first media timeout.
  • South Carolina went on a 13-1 run to extend their lead, resulting in a timeout by the Flyers.
  • The Flyers struggled on offense, shooting only 13.3 percent from the field.

  • At a media timeout with 4:44 left on the clock, the Flyers were trailing South Carolina 49-24.
  • The Flyers' defense continued to keep South Carolina from running up the lead, allowing them to only score 14 points in the quarter.
  • With 1:29 to play in the quarter, the Gamecocks called a timeout. South Carolina led 55-29.
  • Jenna Giacone scored six points in the third quarter, shooting 2-2 from beyond the arc. 
  • The Flyers shot 42.9 percent from beyond the arc in the quarter.
  • Dayton snagged 14 rebounds in the quarter.
4th Quarter: Dayton 49, South Carolina 75
  • The Gamecocks kept the pressure on the Flyers in the fourth period.
  • Dayton kept South Carolina from running up the lead, responding to South Carolina's first 13 points with 12 of their own.
  • Jenna Giacone drilled two shots from behind the arc in the first five minutes of play to keep the Flyers in the game.
  • Dayton offense continued to improve in the fourth quarter, shooting 31.6% from the field.
