MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team played Central Michigan University at 12 p.m. for school day in Mount Pleasant, Mich., but fell in overtime by one.
The Flyers (3-2) suffered their first road loss of the year while the Chippewas (1-3) earned their first victory of the campaign.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 18, Central Michigan 19
- Central Michigan jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game.
- Dayton was able to get on the board at the 6:29 mark with a three from senior Jayla Scaife.
- By the first media break, the Flyers trailed 9-3.
- UD cut the margin to one at 9-8 on a three by redshirt junior Erin Whalen. She followed that up with another one to put the Flyers up 11-9.
- The Chippewas answered the game went back and forth the final four minutes of the quarter.
- Whalen led the way with eight points, going 3-for-3 and 2-for-2 from three.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 35, Central Michigan 38
- Dayton took the lead back to start the second on a Julia Chandler layup, but CMU quickly answered.
- Midway through the quarter, the Chippewas held a five-point lead over the Flyers, 28-23.
- Each time CMU tried to pull away, Dayton would counter with big three's from seniors Jenna Giacone and Jayla Scaife. That kept the Flyers within a bucket.
- The Chippewas scored at the buzzer to make it a three-point game at the break.
- Dayton shot 30 percent in the first 20 minutes while Central Michigan shot 50 percent.
- The Flyers led for only 51 second in the first half, but never trailed by more than six.
- Whalen led the way with eight while Giacone, Chandler, Scaife, and Fowler each had six points.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 61, Central Michigan 60
- The Chippewas started the third on a 6-0 run to take a 44-35 lead.
- Dayton attempted to claw its way back thanks to free throws by Bradshaw and a putback by Whalen.
- By the media timeout, it was a five-point game once against, 50-45.
- Giacone hit a three at the 2:25 mark to make it a one-point game, 54-53.
- She then drilled another three on the next possession to tie it up at 56-56.
- Whalen was fouled on a three-point attempt with just two seconds left and hit two of three to put the Flyers ahead by one.
4th Quarter: Dayton 71, Central Michigan 71
- CMU went on a run of their own to start the fourth and pulled ahead of Dayton by six, 71-65. Forcing a Flyer timeout with 6:21 on the clock.
- Davis and Kelly combined for the first 11 points in the quarter for the Chippewas.
- At the media timeout, it was a five-point game.
- Whalen hit a big three with 2:04 to play to cut the margin to just tow, 71-69.
- She then hit a pull up jumper to tie the game up with just over a minute left.
- Neither team was able to take advantage of their possession, forcing overtime.
- The Chippewas didn't score the final 6:21 of the quarter.
Overtime: Dayton 80, Central Michigan 81
- The Flyers scored the first four points of overtime with a pair of free throws by Fowler and a layup by Whalen.
- Central Michigan stayed with Dayton though, not allowing them to pull ahead by more than four.
- Kelly scored 10 straight points for the Chippewas.
- Fowler drove with the shot clock winding down and got a tough jumper to fall, putting the Flyers up with with :28 to play.
- CMU hit a pair of free throws to make it a one-point game again.
- After missed free throws by Dayton, the Chippewas went down and hit the go-ahead bucket.
- The Flyers turned the ball over on the other end for their final opportunity.

Erin Whalen set a new career-high of 27 points, surpassing her 25-point previous mark. She also hit a season-high three three-pointers.
38.8 to 45.6 – Dayton shot 38.8 percent from the floor while Central Michigan shot 45.6.
