LAHAINA, Maui – The University of Dayton men's basketball team surpasses Virginia Tech in the semifinals of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. This is the fourth trip to the Maui Invitational, with the Flyers last winning the tournament in 2003.

The Flyers were led by
Obi Toppin who scored 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting and eight rebounds.
Rodney Chatman and
Trey Landers both added 13 points each, with
Ryan Mikesell adding 10 points.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Half: Dayton 49, Virginia Tech 31
• The game got off to a close start with Dayton and Virginia Tech exchanging buckets.
• The Flyers quickly responded by going on a 10-0 run to bring the score to 12-5 with 15:02 left in the half.Â
• Dayton went on a 13-2 run that started at 7:08 left in the half, giving the Flyers a 14-point lead.
• The Flyers defense forced the Hokies into a scoring drought during the last 3:51 of the half.

Obi Toppin hit three consecutive three-pointers to score nine straight points for the Flyers late in the half. Toppin finished the half with 14 points and three rebounds.

•The Flyers went 8-of-14 (57%) from three in the half compared to just 5-of-12 (42%) from Virginia Tech.

• The Flyers went on a 7-0 run that resulted in a Virginia Tech timeout with 5:01 left in the game. This extended the Flyers lead to 21.
• Dayton went on a 14-2 run shooting 6-of-6 from the field to extend their lead to 26 points.
• Toppin scored an additional 10 points in the second half, putting him at 24 points for the game.Â
