Women's Basketball Defeats Lipscomb in Season Opener

Erin Whalen Led The Flyers With 19 Points

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's basketball team took on the Lipscomb Bison to open their first regular season game of the 2019-20 season and earned an 82-60 victory.

KEY MOMENT

3rd Quarter- With a personal run of a three-pointer, a steal, a driving layup in transition, and a drawn foul, redshirt senior, Shakeela Fowler forces a Lipscomb timeout at 52-36.

GAME BREAKDOWN

1ST Quarter: Dayton 16, Lipscomb 10

  • Dayton gains the tip to start the game and leads at the first media timeout 8-4.

  • The Bison make the quick comeback forcing a Flyer timeout at score 10-9 with a lead change.

  • The Flyers change the lead once more ending the first quarter with score at 16-10, and 6 points coming from freshman Mariah Perez, with four of those points scored as free throws.

  • 10 of the 11 dressed on the Flyers saw the court in the first quarter.

2nd Quarter: Dayton 38, Lipscomb 23

  • At the first media timeout of the second quarter, Dayton kept the Bison at 10 with a score of 20-10.

  • Sophomore Kyla Whitehead led in total points with eight and redshirt senior Julia Chandler led in rebounds with a collective six.

  • The Bison ended the half with a total of 13 personal fouls to the Flyers six.

  • The Flyers maintained a 78.6% free throw percentage, making a total of 11 of the 14 baskets shot.

3rd Quarter:  Dayton 60, Lipscomb 38

  • The Flyers push their lead with a score of 47-32 lead at 4:45

  • Fowler gained momentum for the Flyers. With a personal run of a three-pointer, a steal, a driving layup in transition, and a drawn foul, which forced a Lipscomb timeout at 52-36.

  • With 0:39 seconds left on the clock of the third quarter, the Flyers sub in senior Christine Szabo, playing the final player off of their bench.

4th Quarter: Dayton 82, Lipscomb 60

  • Every dressed player not only played, but also scored at least four points.

  • The Flyers ended with a total of five blocks.

  • The fourth quarter sees the game's largest lead to end with the Flyers up 82-60 at 0:09 seconds left.

  • In the fourth quarter, the Flyers end with a free throw percentage of 78.6% with 14 attempted.
