WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team suffered a 78-59 loss to Wake Forest Friday in the first game of the 2019 West Palm Beach Invitational in Florida.
The Flyers (5-7) were unable to stop a surging Deacon (6-4) squad.

1st Quarter: Dayton 4, Wake Forest 11
- Dayton was the first to strike after a strong defensive start by both teams when senior Jayla Scaife hit a pull-up jumper.
- Wake Forest didn't get its first points until the 5:48 mark with a contested putback.
- By the media break, it was still a low-scoring game at 4-2 in favor of Dayton.
- The Deacons answered with four-straight points out of the break and took a 6-4 lead.

2nd Quarter: Dayton 23, Wake Forest 27
- Sophomore Kyla Whitehead scored at the 8:30 mark to end an 8:30 scoring drought for UD.
- Wake Forest got the margin to 14 at 20-6 before Whitehead scored six straight points for the Flyers.
- Dayton went on a 6-0 run to close the gap to eight at 22-14, forcing a Deacon timeout with 5:13 on the clock.
- The Flyers stayed within eight going into the final minute of the quarter, 27-19.
- Redshirt junior Erin Whalen drilled a three in the final seconds of the quarter to make it a four-point game, 27-23.
- UD shot 34.5 percent while Wake shot 36.7 percent.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 40, Wake Forest 64
- Wake scored the first five points of the third to add to its advantage.

- After a Wake Forest three pointer just 12 seconds later, the Flyers called their second timeout of the game.
- The Deacons got the margin up to 20 with 2:13 to play, with the Flyers calling another timeout.

4th Quarter: Dayton 59, Wake Forest 78
- Whitehead hit a pair of free throws to open the fourth, scoring four straight points for the Flyers.
- Dayton scored eight straight points from the free throw line, dating back to the third quarter.
- Midway through the quarter, Wake Forest led 72-47.
- Senior Jenna Giacone hit a couple of three's late in the game to spark the UD offense.
