#UDWBB Falls At Duquesne Sunday

The Flyers Move To 7-3 In A-10 Play

PITTSBURGH – The University of Dayton women's basketball team suffered an 85-57 loss at Duquesne on Sunday afternoon.

The Flyers (12-9, 7-3 A-10) end their winning streak while the Dukes (12-11, 6-4 A-10) end their losing skid.

KEY MOMENT
3rd quarter - After trailing by just two at the half, Duquesne outscored Dayton 30-10 in the third quarter alone.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1ST Quarter: Dayton 16, Duquesne 13
  • Dayton jumped out to the initial lead thanks to five quick points from senior Maddy Dennis.
  • Duquesne was able to tie it back up though at 5-5 by the six minute mark.
  • Junior Jayla Scaife hit a jumper out of the media break followed by a Lauren Cannatelli three to put Dayton head 12-8.
  • The Flyers held a narrow lead, 16-13 at the end of the quarter.
  • Dennis and Cannatelli led UD with five points each while Scaife had four.
  • Dayton shot 46.2 percent while holding Duquesne to 29.4 percent.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 32, Duquesne 33
  • Cannatelli scored the first four points in the first two minutes for Dayton to add to the Flyers' advantage.
  • The Dukes on the other hand suffered from a 2:15 scoring drought.
  • Duquesne responded though and made it a two-point game at 22-20 with 5:40 to play.
  • By the media break, the game differential remained at two, 24-22.
  • Duquesne struck next and took a 28-26 lead with 2:59 to play.
  • The Flyers trailed by one going into the locker room at half.
  • UD shot 45.8 percent in the opening 20 minutes by holding Duquesne to 40.6 percent.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 45, Duquesne 63
  • The Dukes came out of halftime on fire and pulled ahead of the Flyers 39-34.
  • Dayton was forced to call a timeout at the 5:51 mark after Duquesne pushed its lead to five at 41-36.
  • Midway through the quarter, redshirt junior Araion Bradshaw hit a three to close the gap just before the media break, making it a four-point game, 43-39.
  • Dayton was forced to call another timeout at the 3:18 mark as Duquesne expanded the margin to 11 at 50-39.
  • The Flyers suffered from a 3:06 drought while the Dukes had a 13-0 run.
  • Duquesne continued its hot streak and made it a 19-point game going into the final minute.
  • The Flyers' last six points came from the free throw line.
4th Quarter: Dayton 57, Duquesne 85
  • Dayton continued to hit free throws, carrying over from the third quarter to get nine straight points from the charity stripe.
  • The Flyers called a timeout at the 6:39 mark as they trailed, 70-50.
  • UD was unable to make a comeback and fell on the road.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
16 – Cannatelli led Dayton with 16 points in the game while going 8-for-10 from the free throw line.
30 – The 30 points in the third quarter was the most allowed by the Flyers this season.
