CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Dayton softball team split its games on the second day of the Chattanooga Challenge. Dayton defeated Kennesaw State, 10-8, and fell to host Chattanooga, 8-0 (5). The three-day event is being held at UTC's Jim Frost Stadium.
Dayton moves to 4-5 on the season while Kennesaw State is now 1-7 and Chattanooga improves to 8-0.
GAME ONE
Dayton 10, Kennesaw State 8
Winning Pitcher:
Jessica Gilliam (2-2) - three earned runs on five hits with zero walks to five strikeouts (5.0 IP)
Losing Pitcher: Abby Deane (1-2) - two earned runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout (five total runs - 1.0 IP)
GAME TWO
Chattanooga 8, Dayton 0 (5)
Winning Pitcher: Swinford (2-0) - zero earned runs on six hits with zero walks to four strikeouts (5.0 IP)
Losing Pitcher:
Jessica Weaver (1-2) - two earned runs on seven hits with one walk to three strikeouts (3.0 IP)
KEY STATS
• 5 - Gilliam tallied a season-high five strikeouts in the Flyers win over the Owls
• 5 - sophomore
Abby Ehrenborg recorded five RBI in the win over KSU after a 3-for-3 outing at the plate, including her third home run of the season
