The University of Dayton men's tennis team heads to Indianapolis on Friday for a doubleheader at the West Indy Racquet Club. Dayton will first take on IUPUI at 12 p.m. before matching up with Eastern Illinois at 5 p.m. (ET). The Flyers have a 4-3 record this season and has had four straight matches go down the wire with a final score of 4-3.Â
IUPUI takes a 6-4 record into the match on Friday and is 4-0 at the West Indy Racquet Club, including wins over A-10 foe Saint Louis and Michigan State. Ethan Mardanus-Budio has the top record in dual match play this season for the Jaguars with a 6-2 mark at No. 4 singles. Alex Jochim is 3-4 at the top spot in the lineup, while Sean Bailey is 3-3 at No. 2 singles.
Eastern Illinois is 6-6 this season with wins over Wright State and Saint Louis, but enters Friday on a two-match losing streak off losses to Valparaiso and UIC by scores of 6-1 and 5-2, respectively. The Panthers have winning records at the No. 1 and No. 2 courts in singles play with Freddie O'Brien owning a 6-4 record at No. 1 singles and Mike Jansen having a 7-3 mark at No. 2 singles.
The top of the lineup has been strong for Dayton with
Jordan Benjamin and
Langford Hills at the top two spots. Benjamin is 5-2 this season and was just named as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Tuesday, while Hills is a perfect 7-0 this spring. Benjamin and teammate
Spencer Richey are also on a five-match win streak in No.1 doubles.
