#UDWBB Plays Final Road Game Of Regular Season At Fordham

The Flyers Sit In Fourth While The Rams Are In Second In The A-10

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team plays its final road game of the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at Fordham.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton sits at 14-11 overall and 9-5 in conference play which puts them in a tie for fourth place currently. The Flyers are 2-9 on the road this season and have lost three of their last five.

Head coach Shauna Green is the reigning A-10 Coach of the Year and is in her third season at the helm of the Flyers. With a 59-27 record at Dayton and three conference titles, expectations are high for the program.

As a team, the Flyers are averaging 66.0 points per game and allowing just 59.5 points to opposing teams. Dayton shoots 37.4 percent overall, 31.0 percent from three, and 70.5 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers benefit from a +2.8 rebounding margin.

Dayton is led by junior Jayla Scaife with 15.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Senior Lauren Cannatelli adds 13.3 points per game and shoots 89.7 percent from the free throw line. Redshirt junior Shakeela Fowler provides a spark off the bench with 9.0 points and 3.0 rebounds each outing.

SCOUTING FORDHAM
Fordham hosts dayton with a 20-8 record on the season and 11-3 mark in A-10 play. The Rams are sitting in second and a first round bye spot in the league standings. Fordham has won seven in a row, the longest streak in the A-10.

Head coach Stephanie Gaitley is in her eighth year at Fordham, but 33rd year as a Division I head coach. She has the Rams on a roll, having not lost since Jan. 27 at Davidson.

Fordham is scoring 60.0 points per game and giving up 55.3 point to opponents. The Rams are shooting 38.7 percent from the field, 30.6 percent from behind the arc, and 71.2 percent from the charity stripe. Fordham has a +4.6 rebounding margin and +2.4 turnover margin.  The Rams lead the A-10 in assist-to-turnover ratio, fewest fouls, fewest turnovers, rebounding margin, and three-point field goals per game.

The Rams are led by Bre Cavanaugh with 16.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. Mary Goulding is the team's leading rebounder at 8.1 boards per game to go with 11.5 points each contest.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton suffered a heartbreaking 54-51 loss at George Mason on a last-second, game-winning shot despite making a double-digit fourth quarter comeback for the third straight game.

Fordham powered its way to a 76-64 win over Massachusetts on Sunday at home on Senior Day. The Rams outscored the Minutewomen 46-28 in the first half and rode that to victory. Bre Cavanaugh scored 27 points with five threes.

THE SERIES
Dayton and Fordham have played 30 times previously with the Flyers dominating the series at 24 wins compared to the Rams' six. UD won the first meeting this season on Jan. 20 with a 72-50 victory at home. Jayla Scaife had a game-high 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the way.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
The Flyers rank fourth nationally in defensive rebounds per game and fifth in three-point field goal percentage defense. Dayton also leads the A-10 in free throws made, rebounds per game, and ranks second in scoring margin. Individually, Cannatelli leads the league in free throw percentage while Scaife is third in points per game.

FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 98 of its last 122 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.817), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll behind conference favorites Duquesne. With two first-place votes and 183 points, the Flyers were picked ahead of Fordham, George Washington, and Saint Joseph's.

PRESEASON HONORS
The Atlantic 10 released its preseason all-conference teams and recognized a pair of Flyers as junior Jayla Scaife was named First Team All-Conference as well as All-Defensive Team while senior Lauren Cannatelli was named Second Team All-Conference.

UP NEXT
Dayton finishes up the regular season at home on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m. against Saint Louis. It will be Senior Day at UD Arena.
