SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads into the season finale with a 14-12 record overall, a 9-6 Atlantic 10 mark, and sit in fifth in the conference standings. The Flyers have lost two in a row, but have not lost at home in A-10 play this season.
Head coach
Shauna Green is the reigning A-10 Coach of the Year and is in her third season at the helm of the Flyers. With a 59-23 record at Dayton and three conference titles, expectations are high for the program.
As a team, the Flyers are scoring 65.3 points per game, which ranks second in the A-10, and giving up just 59.4, which ranks fifth. Dayton shoots 37.3 percent overall, 30.7 percent from three, and 70.7 percent from the free throw line. UD benefits from a +2.8 rebounding margin.
Dayton is led by junior
Jayla Scaife with 15.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, both of which rank in the top six in the league. Senior
Lauren Cannatelli is adding 13.0 points per game and leads the A-10 in free throw percentage at 89.8 percent.
SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
Saint Louis looks to finish up the regular season with a winning record, entering the game at 14-14 overall. The Billikens are 9-6 in the A-10 and are tied with Dayton for fifth place. SLU has won four of its last five games.
Head coach Lisa Stone is a veteran of the Atlantic 10 and in her seventh season in charge of the Billikens. She was named A-10 Coach of the Year in 2016, the eighth of her career.
Saint Louis is scoring 62.6 points per game and giving up 60.8 points to opposing teams. The Billikens shoot 40.3 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from behind the arc, and 70.0 percent from the charity stripe. They do have to overcome a -2.4 turnover margin however with a young squad.
The Billikens are led by freshman and 10-time A-10 Rookie of the Week Ciaja Harbison, who is scoring 15.1 points per game to go with 3.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Jordyn Frantz is right there with her at 15.0 points per game and leads the A-10 with 76 made threes.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton lost its second straight game with a tough 57-48 road loss at Fordham Wednesday. UD stormed back to pull within three in the fourth, but was unable to catch the Rams.
Saint Louis earned an important victory at home against A-10 leaders VCU on Wednesday, 76-60. The Billikens dominated throughout and shot 44.2 percent compared to the Rams' 35.6 percent. SLU also went 25-for-29 at the free throw line, including 19-of-20 in the fourth.
THE SERIES
Dayton and Saint Louis have played 39 times previously with the Flyers winning 29 times and the Billikens winning 10 times. SLU has won the last two meetings however, both on the road. Earlier this season, UD fell at Saint Louis, 65-68 in triple overtime.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
The Flyers rank fifth in the country in defensive rebounds per game and fourth in three-point field goal percentage defense. Dayton also leads the A-10 in free throws made and rebounds per game. Individually,
Lauren Cannatelli leads the conference in free throw percentage and ranks ninth nationally. Â
CANNATELLI'S SWEEPS THREE-POINT RECORDS
Senior
Lauren Cannatelli made her 240th career three pointer on Feb. 14 at VCU, breaking the all-time mark in Dayton history. The Cincinnati native already held the single game made threes, single season made threes, and career three pointers attempted. With her three's at VCU, Cannatelli passed former Flyer
Andrea Hoover (2011-15).
FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 98 of its last 123 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.817), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.
COACH GREEN EARNS 50TH WIN AT DAYTON
Dayton head coach
Shauna Green earned her 50th win at UD in just two and half seasons with the win over Georgia Tech at the West Palm Beach Invite. Coach Green became the fastest Flyer coach to reach that mark since joining Division I and the fastest overall since Coach Maryalyce Jermiah led the Division II Dayton squad to back-to-back National Championship appearances in 1978-80.
THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 563 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
WE'VE GOT AN AUDIENCE
On Dec. 9, 2017, the Flyers played in front of 9,007 fans at UD Arena while hosting Toledo. The season-best crowd was due to the overwhelming success of UD's annual School Day game, a chance for local school-aged children to take a field trip with the Flyers. With a home attendance average of 2,605, Dayton ranked 48th out of 349 DI programs. This year's School Day game against Colgate in the season opener had 8,811 fans in attendance.
70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 157-18 (.895) when scoring 70 or more points, including 11-1 in 2016-17. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2009-10 when reaching that mark.
