#UDWBB Earns Road Win At Rhode Island Sunday

The Flyers Move To 6-2 In A-10 Play

KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team used strong second and third quarters to pick up a road win at Rhode Island Sunday afternoon.

The Flyers (11-8, 6-2 A-10) earn their second road win of the season while the Rams (7-14, 2-7 A-10) drop another one in Atlantic 10 play.

KEY MOMENT
1st quarter - 4:29 – It was just a four-point game at 14-10 before Dayton ended the quarter on an 8-2 run to take the lead and never look back.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1ST Quarter: Dayton 22, Rhode Island 12
  • Rhode Island took the initial lead with a three right out of the gate.
  • Senior Lauren Cannatelli then hit a pair of free throws and a three to tie the game up at 5-5 with 7:40 to play.
  • Redshirt junior Julia Chandler scored in transition to give Dayton its first lead of the game.
  • UD rode a 7-0 run to take the momentum in its favor.
  • Midway through the quarter, the Flyers held a 14-10 advantage thanks to eight points from Cannatelli.
  • Cannatelli continued to power the offense and scored five more in a row for the visitors, pushing the margin to nine points at 19-10.

2nd Quarter: Dayton 43, Rhode Island 32
  • Redshirt junior Brittany Ward scored the first five points of the second quarter for the Flyers who continued to push the pace.
  • Rhode Island answered and closed the gap to three at 27-24 with 6:00 on the clock.
  • Fouls started to slow the pace of the game down over the next few minutes.
  • The Rams made it a two-point game with two minutes in the half at 33-31.
  • Dayton scored five points in the final 36 seconds to push its lead back to double figures.
  • Cannatelli led all scorers with 16 points in the first half while junior Jayla Scaife and freshman Kyla Whitehead added seven points each.
  • The Flyers shot 39.5 percent from the field and held the Rams to 34.4 percent.
  • UD also benefited from a 27 to 21 rebounding advantage.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 62, Rhode Island 48
  • The pace of the game was sluggish coming out of the locker rooms for the second half.
  • Ward scored the first four points for UD over the opening three minutes of the quarter.
  • Rhode Island called a timeout at the 7:03 mark with the Flyers up 47-38.
  • By the media break, Dayton matched its largest lead of the game at 13 points, 51-38.
  • The Rams countered with a 6-0 run over the next minute, forcing a Flyer timeout.
  • Dayton was able to make a run of its own to make it a 15-point game at 60-45.
  • Senior Maddy Dennis hit a contested hook shot at the buzzer to give Dayton the 62-48 lead.
4th Quarter: Dayton 74, Rhode Island 62
  • Dayton went to the bench to start the fourth to give the starters some needed rest after playing four overtimes the previous two games.
  • Rhode Island was forced to call a timeout at the 5:07 mark as the Flyers led 72-52.
  • UD stifled any URI rally attempts, not letting the Rams get any closer than 15 points.
  • The Flyers held on for their second road win of the season.
