CHARLESTON, S.C. - The University of Dayton softball team dropped a 9-1 decision at Charleston Southern in five innings in both teams' season opener Thursday evening. The Flyers and the Buccaneers kicked off the Charleston Southern Willie Jewell Invitational Thursday night at CSU Softball Complex.

Dayton opens 2019 at 0-1 and Charleston Southern is 1-0.

• 6 - Charleston Southern scored six runs in the second inning to take a lead it would not relinquish
• 1-for-1 - junior Ellie Ziegler went 1-for-1 at the plate and tallied one RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third inning
