CHARLESTON, S.C. - The University of Dayton softball team picked up two wins on Friday in its second day of action at the Charleston Southern Willie Jewell Invitational. Dayton started the day with a 14-0, five-inning win over Maryland Eastern Shore and then outlasted South Dakota, 4-3, in nine innings.

Dayton improves to 2-1 on the season while Eastern Shore and South Dakota are now 0-1.

KEY MOMENT
With the score tied 3-3 and runners on first and third with one out against South Dakota, sophomore Mallory Kimmell batted in senior Kelly Fitzgerald with the game-winning RBI.

Winning Pitcher: Catherine Jensen (1-0) - zero earned runs on one hit and one walk to five strikeouts

• 5-of-6 - Dayton was 5-of-6 in stolen bases on the day led by senior Kyle Davidson with two
• 5 - Fitzgerald scored five runs for the Flyers on the day, including three of four runs scored in the 4-3 win over South Dakota. She also batted her first career triple in the win over Eastern Shore
• 5 - freshman Catherine Jensen recorded five strikeouts in her first career start as a Flyer in her complete-game shutout win over UMES
