#UDBASE Drops Series Opener To Vanderbilt, 11-3

Dayton And Vanderbilt Will Play A Doubleheader Tomorrow Beginning At 2 P.M. (ET)

NASHVILLE - The University of Dayton baseball team is on the road at No. 1 Vanderbilt this weekend and dropped the series opener by a score of 11-3. Dayton's record is now 1-4-1 this season, while Vanderbilt improves to 7-2. Alex Brickman hit a home run to make the score 5-3 in the top of the fifth, but the Commodores used a three-run bottom of the fifth to extend its lead out to five and got three additional insurance runs in the eighth to close out the win. 

The Flyers and Commodores will play a doubleheader tomorrow with the first game scheduled to start at 2 p.m. (ET).

SCORING SUMMARY
Bottom 2nd (Vanderbilt 2, Dayton 0)
Stephen Scott was hit by a pitch and Pat DeMarco singled to give Vanderbilt runners on the corners, then Scott scored on a balk. Philip Clarke doubled to left field to drive home DeMarco.

Top 3rd (Dayton 2, Vanderbilt 2)
Michael Cleary, Mitchell Garrity and Jay Curtis opened the inning with three straight singles. Curtis's hit drove home Cleary and advanced Garrity to third, who scored on the next at-bat via an Alex Brickman groundout.

Bottom 3rd (Vanderbilt 3, Dayton 2)
JJ Bleday homered to left field to put Vanderbilt back in front.

Bottom 4th (Vanderbilt 5, Dayton 2)
A pair of one-out walks gave Vanderbilt a pair of baserunners and a Cooper Davis double scored the lead runner. An Austin Martin groundout to shortstop allowed the second runner to score.

Top 5th (Vanderbilt 5, Dayton 3)
Alex Brickman hit a towering home run over the tall left field fence to cut the deficit back to three.

Bottom 5th (Vanderbilt 8, Dayton 3)
Corey Imbriano struck out a two of the first four batters he faced, but with runners on second and third, a wild pitch allowed Clarke to score. Harrison Ray drew a walk and stole second, then Davis doubled to left to drive in two runs.

Bottom 8th (Vanderbilt 11, Dayton 3)
The first four Vanderbilt batters of the inning reached via two walks, a single and a hit batter. The single drove in the first run of the inning and the Commodores scored two more runs later in the frame on a pair of sacrifice flies.
