Box Score DAYTON -- The University of Dayton women's tennis team fell short by a 4-3 margin to Saint Louis on Friday night to open up a two-game weekend homestand. Dayton's record is now 4-13 with the loss, while Saint Louis improves to 5-8 on the year.
Dayton started the match strong with wins at each of the top two courts in doubles play.
Mattea Kilstofte and
Natalie Allen cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while
Emily Zargham grinded out a 7-6 win at the top spot of the lineup to clinch the opening point of the match.
In singles play, Kilstofte was forced to retire in the second set, which tied the match at 1-1, but Zargham came through with a big 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles to put the Flyers back in the lead. After the Flyers dropped courts three and four, freshman
Mary Brascia delivered a match-tying win on court six with a 6-4, 6-2 victory, which left the match in the hands of court five, where
Natalie Allen was in a hard-fought, three-set match. Allen won the opening set by a score of 6-4, but Alba Salinas for Saint Louis would battle back for 6-2 and 7-5 wins in the second and third sets, respectively, to clinch the match for the Billikens.
Dayton will be back in action at home once again on Sunday morning against Duquesne at the Five Seasons Family Sports Club for Senior Day.
